The Power of Words: How Daily Affirmations Changed My Life.
Start Your Day with Small Affirmations That Change Your Everyday Life!
Starting your day off with just a, "I'm going to ace this test," or a, "I am beautiful on the inside and out," can have such an impact on your mindset of events throughout the entire day. We all experience stress in some way, but its how we perceive the stress and come out on top of it that predicts our mental health, which is just as important as our physical health.
The world is always tugging on us, pulling us in different directions, and we try to keep up, by wearing ourselves thin. This makes it easy to go down a path of pessimism, of rage and anger. But what if something as simple as words can bring clarity, and peace into our lives? These are affirmations. I'm here to show you how they changed my life.
Mindset:
Affirmations influence your mindset on how well you speculate a change in your life. Change can be bad, or good. If perceived as good, we are more likely to welcome it with open arms, embrace it, and not let it bring us down. If its perceived as bad, our actions become negative as we perceive it as negative. We always look to prove ourselves right, so by changing your mindset to look towards optimism, our actions will follow with optimistic approaches.
Types of Affirmations:
Affirmations are mental exercise, that strengthen your brain. Just like how physical exercise strengthen your body. They are designed to rewire our subconscious beliefs. Some common examples include:
- "I am smart enough to take on this new challenge."
- " I am valued"
- " I choose peace over worry"
At first, even I was skeptical of these "meaningless" sentences. I didn't think they would do anything to really change what was going on in my life, or magically boost my self-esteem overnight. but over time, I started to believe my own words. Consistency and time were huge factors.
How Affirmations Changed My Life:
Boosted My Confidence: When I first started out, I didn't fully believe in the affirmations, if i'm being honest. To my surprise, they exaggerated my confidence in myself, and I went about my day secretly repeating those affirmations again to myself. It was like giving myself a pep talk before stepping out into the real world.
Created A Morning Ritual: I ended up taking time out of my day in the morning to literally just talk to myself, repeat affirmations. This created a sense of peace and stillness, when it felt like the world just stopped for a second and I had a chance to breath and take it all in. Eventually, affirmations became a self-care habit, like my skincare routine, I genuinely looked forward to.
Reframed Negative Thoughts: Instead of convincing myself with, "I am not good enough," I reframed that into "I am growing and learning new things everyday." This certainly changed the way I interpreted a challenge.
Tips For Using Affirmations Effectively:
Fake it Till You make it: Even if you don't fully believe your affirmations, say it like you do.
Make Them Personal: Align your affirmations to your current goals or dreams.
Be Consistent: Repetition is important. Create time in your day to repeat affirmations.
Write Them Down: Visual reminders reinforce the affirmations.
Takeaway:
Affirmations won't solve everything goin on in you life, but they bring you one step closer to changing your inner self for the good of it. We become more aware of how much of an impact we have on our own lives, more than our circumstances do. Start small. Pick one affirmation. Say it out loud. Write it down.
